Think you can predict the turnout for a car show?
Perhaps you can, but it appears we can’t. We thought the turnout for the Carter Hill Christian Church car show would be good.
But did we think it would be over 170 registered cars and a dozen Corvettes? Nope, we didn’t see it coming.
It seems our crystal ball was a little cloudy on the numbers this time around. Though, to be fair, the attendance numbers can shoot up quickly when you have Rick Ellis and the Georgia Cool Cruisers putting on an event.
Rick and his energetic team of volunteers have taken car show hosting to a new level. Their events throughout the year are known to be consistent, engaging, and fun.
The Carter Hill Christian Church on Saturday, August 13th, 2022, was no exception, as many will attest.
GSRA For Corvette Owners?
Perhaps you noticed Tina & Barry’s stunning 1933 roadster pictured above isn’t a Corvette. No, we didn’t slide the photo into the lineup to see if you were paying attention.
The ’33 was in our camera roll because it is Concours quality, but more importantly, to remind us to mention that GSRA is an excellent alternative to a traditional Corvette club.
A surprising number of GSRA members either have a Corvette or have had one in their collection. However, a fact that is not so surprising is the collective wealth of automotive knowledge this club possesses.
So if you’re looking for an active club whose tastes and talents aren’t limited to America’s Sports Car, the Georgia Street Rod Association should be on your shortlist.
“Operation Invest”
Car shows often bring a community together to enjoy camaraderie, trade stories and support a worthy cause. This event checked off all of those boxes and more.
In this case, the financial support was for “Operation Invest,” which goes to renovate Charter Hill’s historic church.
This venerable red brick Church, with its abundant shade tree parking, provided a natural backdrop for the day’s events. Upbeat toe-tapping ’50s and ’60s music brought back fond memories while keeping the mood light and festive.
Rounding out the day’s activities were numerous crafts, door prizes, raffles, vendors, and of course, the highly anticipated trophy presentation.
Seeing how we did on this event, we’ll probably leave our crystal ball for guessing future attendance on the shelf.
But one thing is for sure; the 2nd Annual Carter Hill Church Car Show exceeded our prediction.
