Since Buyavette opened its doors in October 1991, it has been a prominent fixture in Atlanta’s Corvette community.
On the business side, few can achieve the three-decade-long arc of success that Greg Rush, C.E.O. of Buyavette, has enjoyed.
So, we went in search of his business formula, his secret sauce of success. What ultimately makes this dealership stand out in Corvette sales and service?
What follows is a portion of our podcast interview we recorded in his conference room in Atlanta.
You can listen to our conversation in its entirety on our podcast titled: Talking With Greg Rush, The C.E.O. Of Buyavette In Atlanta.
It All Started With A ’37 Ford
Rod Worley – Editor – Greg, I appreciate you carving out some time for us today. So, have cars always been a big part of your life, and what drew you to Corvettes?
Greg Rush – C.E.O. of Buyavette – Well, Rod, the love of cars goes back to when I bought an old ’37 Ford and put a Pontiac motor in it. Times were tough because my father left the family.
At 15 years old, I leased a gas station just outside of Atlanta, pumped gas, worked on cars for people, and enjoyed that for two years. Eventually sold that and went into the electronics business.
But Corvettes have always been a part of my life. Then, when I was 40 years old, the electronics industry ended.
As fate would have it, my brother was an A.C. Delco distributor exclusively for Corvette parts. He was very successful in selling original Corvette parts all over the United States.
We went into business together and bought the former Porsche/Volkswagen dealership in Atlanta. The plan was to bring in someone to sell used Corvettes, but he didn’t show up.
So I went out and bought a used Corvette, ran a little ad in the Autotrader magazine, and then got on the phone and sold it. After that one, I thought, what the heck?
So next time, I bought half a dozen cars, and that’s how things started. Looking back on it now, I tell people it was my midlife crisis to open up a Corvette dealership.
Successful Business Formula
Rod Worley – Editor – Buyavette has a nationwide following of clients. Can you share the philosophy that has helped you grow your business? How does that strategy dovetail into the consignment portion of Buyavette?
Greg Rush – C.E.O. of Buyavette – It’s straightforward in business, and that’s to keep the customer in mind. It’s not what you want, but what they want.
Your clients want to buy from an honest place with a good product priced appropriately for the market and to be there long-term to answer any questions or assist with service.
That mindset builds loyalty on the consignment side as well. However, out of our total inventory on hand, consignment only makes up about 15% of the total.
All the vehicles we have consigned have gone through our 300-plus inspection checklist, including being fully serviced before we can offer the vehicle for sale.
We ensure that whether someone is buying a Corvette we purchased or have on consignment, they have gone through the same process.
The consignor pays for the vehicle servicing, inspection, and detailing we require before we sell the vehicle through our dealership.
Money-Back Guarantee
Rod Worley – Editor – Buyavette’s money-back guarantee clearly separates you from the competition. Can you elaborate on the details?
Greg Rush – C.E.O. of Buyavette – The money-back guarantee starts with the buyer having someone come in and inspect the car. We can also provide a list of local inspectors if needed.
Or it could be a friend or a relative checking it to ensure that what you expect it to look like and how it should run is covered. Then we will ship it to you, and if it’s not what you want, you’ve got within 48 hours of delivery to get a full refund.
The client pays for shipping to their destination. Then, if they want a refund, they incur the shipping costs back to our dealership.
Our money-back guarantee gives our clients the peace of mind of knowing that even if they can’t come into our showroom to see the vehicle beforehand, they can still return it.
The Team Difference
There is more to Buyavette in Atlanta than just pristine Corvettes for sale. You can sense it the minute you darken their doorstep.
The team here lives and breathes Corvettes, and that’s key when you’re seriously searching for the next addition to your collection.
Combine a strong service department with a client-centered business approach, and it’s easy to see why they have three decades of success.
When it’s all said and done, one point is undeniable. Greg Rush has a winning formula for selling Corvettes.
