Walk up to a group of Corvette enthusiasts and ask about NCM Insurance, and you’ll probably hear these comments most often.
“They saved me a ton of money on my Corvette insurance,” and “They’re good people and part of the National Corvette Museum.”
And, those are all true statements, but there are some things about NCM Insurance you probably don’t know. And quite frankly, some information we wanted clarification on as well.
So, we set out to find out the rest of the story.
Fortunately, Sam Milam, Business Development Lead and NCM Insurance agent stepped up to help us out. For those who enjoy podcasts, you can listen to our discussion here: Sam Milam – What You Should Know About NCM Insurance.
Those who are voracious readers of our content can find the first installment of our discussion here: NCM Insurance Solves One Of The Mysteries In Life.
Well, onward and upward as they say, as we wrap up our discussion with Sam Milam with a few more pertinent queries.
Signing Up Is Easy
Rod Worley – Editor – We’ve covered how NCM Insurance saves you money on our Corvette insurance. Now can you take us through the initial process to sign up and what items you need after the policy is written?
Sam Milam – NCM Insurance – Initially, we need essential insurance information. Your name, date of birth, driver’s license, year, make and model of car.
We’ll ask what you think your vehicle is worth. And from there, we’ll come up with an agreed value.
We understand the car market. As long as you’re reasonable with the value, we’re not going to have any problem establishing an agreed-upon value.
We’ll also need a starting odometer number and date of purchase.
Next would be to show that you have a daily use vehicle and its declaration page. Your declaration page lets us line up your new liability limits with your current policy. That way, coverages are lined up apples to apples.
Replicas, Resto-Mods & Race Cars
Rod Worley – Editor – Well, that sounds straightforward enough. So let’s step out a little bit here.
Granted, you cover Corvettes, and now we know you cover collector cars. What about some more obscure situations?
Take, for instance, replicas, resto-mods, and race cars? Do you cover those, and how do you determine the rates?
Sam Milam – NCM Insurance – If you watch Barrett-Jackson or Mecum Auctions, you see every type of vehicle, including resto-mods and other crazy cars. We can cover all of them.
In fact, we cover some pretty obscure vehicles. That’s kind of where the market’s going now.
We’ll take that agreed-upon value and lock it in with no depreciation. If a total loss does happen, you know exactly how much you’re getting back for that car.
As far track and race cars go, you’ll have coverage to and from the track and while you’re in the paddock.
The only time that you’re not going to have coverage is once you hit a race surface, just like any other vehicle insurance. We have separate single & multi-day track HPDE policies that can be purchased online.
Two Important Additions
Rod Worley – Editor – Thanks, that clears that question up. While we’re at it, we had some questions about other lesser-known NCM insurance options.
Can you shed some light on Spare Parts Coverage and Trip Interruption Coverage?
Sam Milam – NCM Insurance – Both the Spare Parts Coverage and the Trip Interruption Coverage are included in your policy. For example, let’s say you have a spare wheel, some tires, some ground effects carbon fiber, and a high wing just sitting in your garage.
Your homeowner’s policy isn’t necessarily covering that if a loss happens. However, you can file a claim with our policy and try to recoup some of that money back if a loss or theft occurs.
Trip Interruption Coverage is excellent coverage. Let’s say that you’re coming down to Bowling Green to the Museum.
And your car breaks down, leaving you stranded. So you’re forced to get a hotel room overnight for the repairs.
This Trip Interruption Coverage policy covers your hotel room and food.
Full Range Of Options
Rod Worley – Editor – Well, that’s good to know. Here again, if it happens to you, then you’re thankful you got that covered.
So I was on the NCM insurance website, and I noticed Van Meter’s insurance. So what is that?
Sam Milam – NCM Insurance – When they do switch to us, many of our customers are a little timid about taking their car off of their standard auto policy.
They ask if we ensure their daily use vehicle or provide homeowners insurance. Unfortunately, we do not, but we have a great partner in Van Meter Insurance.
Van Meter Insurance is listed in all 50 states and is one of the larger independent insurance agencies.
We recommend people check out their coverage options. They do standard auto, homeowners, boats, and other lines that we don’t cover.
Rod Worley – Editor – Sam, we will get you out of here on this last question. We’ve covered a lot of ground today, but is there one thought you wanted our readers to remember from our discussion?
Sam Milam – NCM Insurance – Ultimately, what I want to drill home is what separates us rate-wise from other insurance options out there. It has to be our 1,000, 3,000, and 6,000-mile tiers.
Your prized possession gets driven so rarely. So why should you be charged the same rate as your everyday driver?
Informed Decision
Let the facts speak for themselves has always been our motto, especially when it comes to the nuances of car insurance.
Through these two articles and the podcast, we’ve tried to do just that so you can make an informed decision. At the very least, an informed consumer is a better consumer.
Hopefully, we’ve given you greater insight into what NCM Insurance offers. And to that end, special thanks go to Sam Milam for patiently answering our endless list of questions.
As for us, we’ve found it’s easier to decide once you’ve heard the rest of the story.
