Who doesn’t love a good birthday party? Especially when it isn’t their own.
Like many modern traditions, birthdays have solid roots in old Greek and Roman traditions. But unlike those early birthday celebrations, this one was All-American from start to finish.
The Peachtree Corners Festival graciously hosted the 69th birthday party for America’s Sports Car, the Corvette. As you recall, the first Corvette went into production in Flint, Michigan, on June 30th, 1953.
And much like fine wine, America’s Sports Car has proven to get better with age.
So, it was no surprise when Mike Thies from South East Wheels Events turned his energies to working with the Peachtree Corners Festival to celebrate this milestone. Mike has been a successful promoter of car shows and cruise-ins for many years in Atlanta.
While other automotive brands helped round out the 70-car field that attended the celebration, the pride of G.M. stole the show. Obvious blatant personal bias notwithstanding.
Georgia Concours d’Elegance
The Peachtree Corners Festival went all-in on the 4th of July weekend fun by hosting an ambitious two-day car show. First off was the Saturday event that celebrated the 69th birthday of the Corvette.
The following day brought a “sneak peek” teaser event for the upcoming Georgia Concours d’Elegance event next year. Aaron Spaulding, the Chairman of the Georgia Concours d’Elegance, was on hand to lend his energy and expertise to both shows.
Next year’s gathering will undoubtedly be a must-attend event for those whose taste in rolling art run to “Concours level” classic vehicles. And what is “Concours level,” you might ask?
In many cases, the competitiveness of a Concours show demands the restoration of a vehicle that surpasses “mint” condition. Mint, in this instance, would be the state of the vehicle when it originally left the factory.
Concours-quality cars receive upholstery, paint, plating, and mechanical restoration to a standard far exceeding that of the car when it was new.
Next year’s 2023’s Georgia’s Concours d’Elegance will showcase hand-picked classic and historic automobiles nationwide. Car aficionados can expect an event that blends the best of southern charm with heart-warming nostalgia.
I-VAN Supports The Festival
As many can attest, Mike Thies from I-VAN is a welcomed fixture at top automotive gatherings in the Southeast. His unwavering support of the car culture has helped fuel its growth and solidified Atlanta’s prominence in the South for hobbyists.
The International Vehicle Appraisers Network (I-VAN) is among Mike’s many contributions. This valuable service provides professional vehicle appraiser services in a timely, objective, and affordable manner.
I-VAN is a group of hobbyists who have come together through specialized training to create a genuine network of vehicle appraisers. Each appraiser has distinct interests, knowledge base, and collection of vehicles; through the network, they continually share their expertise.
Many of us in the Corvette lifestyle have cars that don’t fit neatly into a cookie-cutter car insurance category. So this is where Mike and his team step in.
They provide the vital nuances of your vehicle that are valuable to your finished appraisal report. I-VAN’s expertise ensures broad acceptance in the marketplace and the legal community.
Answering The Call
Atlanta’s Corvette nation answered the call to come out and celebrate Corvette’s 69th birthday. While several clubs were represented, Amazing Corvettes of Atlanta’s entourage made their presence felt.
And what of the sweltering July heat, you might ask? No worries, as the well-organized event team offered refreshing water and several tents with comfy chairs.
Speaking of organization, Mike Thies from South East Wheels Events put his very particular set of skills, skills he’s acquired over a very long career, on display.
From the start to the final trophy presentation, everything was smooth sailing. We can only imagine what Mike and the Peachtree Corners Festival have in store for us next year when we celebrate Corvette’s 70th birthday.
