Car show organizers often say it’s hard to rally community support for a new car event. But, apparently, that’s not the case if you’re a beloved NBA Hall of Famer like Shaquille O’Neal.
Shaq’s inaugural event had no problem filling the vast Salem Baptist Church parking lot with spectators and beautiful cars. In fact, the event spilled over to the adjacent parking area and beyond.
The vehicle turnout ran the gamut from shiny, new eighth-generation Corvettes to restored classic Ford trucks from the last century. Local Corvette clubs also took advantage of an unseasonably warm Spring day to show their support.
And of course, the master of ceremonies himself, Shaquille O’Neal, was on hand to shake hands and pose for photographs.
Georgia Street Rod Association
When the car show committee went looking for highly qualified car judges, they turned to the Georgia Street Rod Association (GSRA). It was an easy call to make.
The GSRA is a statewide association that is one of America’s oldest automotive and transportation associations. It was formed in 1976 by members of several car clubs to address legislative, insurance, and safety issues facing the automotive hobby.
Today, GSRA is the largest automotive association of its type in Georgia. Not to mention they have many of Georgia’s top car restorers, automotive experts, and collectors among their members.
Serving Those Who Have Served
The Gold Shield Foundation provides aid for law enforcement officers, firefighters, their spouses, and their children when there have been injuries or a death in the line of duty.
From experience, they know that after an incident and the initial community support waivers, the family must cope with their many problems. Gold Shield hopes to fill this void with necessary ongoing support such as:
- Provide early financial assistance not available from other sources,
- Act as receiving agency to accept donations following such a tragedy,
- Provide assistance with emotional, medical, fiscal issues,
- Assist with a college education or vocational training for spouses and children.
Thus far, over $600,000 has been distributed to those injured or who died in the line of duty.
Portable Car Lift Solution
There is truth to the adage, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”
It’s especially true when you’re trying to figure out how to lift a car while at a race track. On top of that, the solution needs to be lightweight and portable.

They’ve supplied their portable lift solution to hundreds of clients spanning multiple divisions and types of racing.
DirtCarLift.com is also a proud marketing partner with events and series, including the Dirt Million, VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals, Southern All-Star Racing Series, and more!
As a bonus, they’re built right here in the USA!
Unique Corvettes Of Atlanta
A strong contingent of Unique Corvettes Of Atlanta members showed up to support this worthy charity event.
Then again, supporting local charities is nothing new for this Atlanta-based incorporated non-profit organization.
From the beginning, the club has prided itself on welcoming a diverse range of Corvette enthusiasts. Today, they have a blend of club activities and events that grows their membership ranks.
For sure, Unique Corvettes of Atlanta members brought some beautiful Vettes. If you want more information on the club, you can reach them on Facebook and their website.
Georgia Sherrif’s Youth Homes
By all accounts, the first CommUNITY car show was a success. In speaking to Mike Leathers, one of the event coordinators, the show attracted over 500 vehicles and raised north of $30,000.
All proceeds from the event supported the Georgia Sherrif’s Youth Homes charity. This vital charity provides Georgia’s most at-risk children the love, safety, and stability needed to become mature, successful adults.
If this inaugural event is any indication, next year’s Law Enforcement & CommUNITY Car Show will need a much bigger venue.
