They say you can’t keep a good man down. Perhaps that sage-like wisdom applies to SuperVette Saturday as well.
A global pandemic, an event date reschedule, and ominous weather did little to hold back the Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta. Their hosting of the 37th annual SuperVette Saturday event is testimony to their grit and determination.
We had several questions taking up space in our head as we pulled our Grand Sport into the dealership’s parking lot. Chief among them was, “Is this going to be the biggest All-Corvette event of the year in the Atlanta area?”
Given the dark clouds overhead and a multitude of other legitimate reasons, we had our doubts.
That day we learned a valuable lesson. Never count out the Classic Glass Corvette Club.
Rolling The Dice On Weather
Most outdoor car shows have a “Go/No Go” policy based on the percentage chance of rain. If it is above a predetermined percentage chance of rain, they cancel the event.
Not sure what that percentage was for this event, but many clubs/events would have folded their tent long ago, I suspect. An intermediate drizzle did come through the area for about five minutes but did little to damper the crowd’s enthusiasm.
Some attendees had to drive through at least one downpour to attend. To them, this very light drizzle was no big concern.
As luck would have it, the weather got better as the day wore on.

They’ve Done This Before
To the casual observer, the entire event came off without a hitch. Such is often the case when experienced car show planning meets focused event day execution.
The attention to detail started the moment you pulled into the parking lot. A club member was waiting to take your temperature, put a green band on your wrist, and direct you through the easy check-in process.
The main parking was organized by the various generations, with areas set aside for club parking. The spectators told us they enjoyed this type of Corvette grouping because they could peruse their favorites in one location.
19 Other Clubs Participate
Want a quick gauge of the quality of an All-Corvette show? See how many other Vette clubs attend.
If there is one thing Corvette clubs know is a good event when they see one. Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta has a proven track record of delivering a quality show. The number of other clubs attending is testimony to that fact.
Nineteen other Corvette clubs supported Classic Glass by having at least 1 to as many as 12 Vettes at the event. USA Corvettes from Dalton, Ga, had 12 Vettes in attendance. Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta had 5.
Peach State Corvette Association had 4. Amazing Corvettes Club had 3.
I also saw Vettes from every club in metro Atlanta area. Unique Corvettes of Atlanta, Lanier Corvettes Unlimited, Corvette Elite of Atlanta, Corvette Atlanta, and Outkast were all in attendance.
Trophies Abound
It’s only natural when you get this many Corvettes together; there will be some speculation as to who has the best one. In a year that has seen some shows go to judging car shows from home, Classic Glass stayed traditional.
They went the extra step by having both independent judges and people’s choice. Typically people’s choice awards are a little sketchy, but when it’s just Corvettes, they mean more.
Vette owners have a better eye for judging their own.
The number of trophies and class breakdowns were spot on for this event. This aspect of the event was just another example of this club having “been there and done that before.”
Strong Show Numbers
Given all the hurdles facing this event, 169 Corvettes registered, and over 500 people attended. Those are substantial numbers for an All-Corvette show in Atlanta during this COVID-19 stricken year.
In our estimation, this was easily the largest Corvette gathering in the metro area for 2020.
Special thanks have to go out to Allen and Linda Zeppenfield from Classic Glass’s excellent monthly newsletter, “The Vette Sette.” This dynamic duo was generous with their hospitality and event insights.
We appreciate Christian Wulfers for letting us use his great aerial drone photographs.
Also, on the list of those to thank is Calvin Cruse for permitting us to use his excellent opening photo for this article. As you know, Calvin does photography for the National Corvette Museum and other publications.
With everything stacked against them, Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta and Day’s Chevrolet pulled off another great event. As many in attendance will attest, it was the All-Corvette event of the year!
