The sun was bright, the wind brisk, and the racing tight at the SVRA/Trans-Am event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Eager spectators rushed to find their favorite vantage point when the gates opened.
Devoted fans of grassroots road course racing are never disappointed with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) action, and this weekend was no exception.
While the SVRA racing action was fun to watch, the Trans-Am series brought another level of excitement for Corvette fans. Running in the Trans-Am series this day were noted Corvette racers Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell.
It was quite the sight to watch
Johnny O’Connell started at the back of the pack and picked off competitors with every lap. His vintage fourth-generation Corvette was up to the task as was Johnny’s legendary driving skill.
Spending some time talking to Johnny after the race, we could tell he had lost none of his fiery competitiveness. Best of all?
He had the blistering lap times to prove it.
Never Miss The Action
While car racing has been around since the day they built the second automobile, much has changed since then. In fact, technology has greatly enhanced how we consume and enjoy a race.
Indeed, that is true with an SVRA/Trans-Am race weekend. While the various competitive classes may include classic cars, the technology to enjoy the race is cutting-edge.

CCA Shows Supports
Members of Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) converged on Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta to show their support for grassroots racing and, of course, Corvette racers. This active Atlanta-based club cruises to car events, visit points of interest, and supports local charities.
CCA is also well known for hosting its well-received car show as well. For example, last year’s Corvette/Camaro show was one of the most attended events in the metro Atlanta area.
Our article covered the fun event: The Corvette Cruisers Of Atlanta Event Was Something Special. Last year was their 9th annual, so we can only imagine what they have in store for their “10th Annual Corvettes For A Cause” event on Saturday, October 8th, 2022.
We’ll keep you posted as we get more information. But, one thing is for sure.
We’re looking forward to it!
Exciting Action All Weekend
Wheel-to-wheel racing action is at the center of every SVRA/Trans-Am weekend, and this event was no exception. The competition was tight and exciting to experience at this legendary 2.54-mile road course.
From a spectator’s perspective, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta offers several compelling vantage points to take in the racing. Combining them with SpeedTour TV on your mobile device gives you a deeply embedded experience that puts you squarely in the center of the action.
One of the weekend’s highlights for us was the opportunity to “Walk the Grid.” Before the Trans-Am race, they bring all the Trans-Am cars out and put them on the starting grid with the drivers.
The fans can walk around the race cars, take photos and talk with their favorite drivers. In addition, it gives fans a chance to see all the Trans-Am cars and drivers in one place.
When you combine abundant sunshine with competitive racing on a challenging road course, you’ve got the makings of a great weekend. SVRA/Trans-Am definitely showcased their exciting racing format at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
