There was magic in the air at this year’s Roswell Motoring Festival.
There were also concours-quality automobiles, three levels of attention-grabbing show cars, vendors, and a record-setting Bonneville Salt Flat racer.
All of it blended under a picture-perfect azure blue sky to give the fourth annual Motoring Festival an air of magic.
However, that shouldn’t surprise anyone because Philip Carroll and his team knock it out of the park every time. 2023’s Festival was another one you can chalk up in the win column.
Mayor Pro Tem
Serving as the illustrious Grand Marshall this year was City Council Woman and Mayor Pro Tem Christine Hall. You could tell she enjoyed bringing the community together for this automotive event.
Once more, the good people at Hagerty offered their signature Youth Judging Program as part of The Roswell Motoring Festival.
The program’s design is to get youth, ages 6 – 14, more involved by bringing the world of judging to a kid-friendly level and connecting future enthusiasts with current collectors.
Adding to the Festival’s magic were talented vocal performances and a professional D.J. who kept the energy high throughout the day. It’s surprising how much those live performances set this show apart from every other automotive gathering in Atlanta.
Land Speed Record
Some like to go fast, and then some want to go REALLY fast. Ed Kowalski of Kowalski Customs fame is clearly in the latter group.
How do we know? Well, in 2021, Ed came home from the Bonneville Speedweek with the V4F/FRMR, the V4F/GRMR, the V4/GRMR, and the V4F/VOT land speed records.
He brought that same record-holding 1923 Ford Model T rear engine, modified roadster to this show. Finished in 56 Chrysler Mediterranean Blue paint, the nitro flathead engined speed racer easily stood out from the crowd.
Hopefully, next year, Ed will bring the other record-holding car from his collection—a 1949 Ford flathead V8 with a custom fuel injection that runs on nitromethane.
St. Jude Hospital
True to its charitable roots, the Roswell Motoring Festival is a proud sponsor of St. Jude Hospital. This children’s research hospital has been the primary charity of the Festival from the first days.
As you know, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is at the forefront of understanding, treating, and defeating childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
The hospital was founded on the premise that “no child should die in the dawn of life.” This idea resulted from a promise that comedian Danny Thomas had made years before the hospital was founded.
Danny used his fame to fulfill his vow and to change the lives of thousands of children and families. In 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened in front of a crowd of 9,000 in Memphis, Tenn
In Atlanta, St. Jude’s is located at The Park at Perimeter Center East, 53 Perimeter Center E Suite 100.
A True Festival
Music, automotive art, and rows of captivating cars greeted those who sought a diversion on this beautiful Saturday. Beyond the usual was a coffee barista, snow cones, a photo booth, and face painting.
Among the vendors of note was Roswell’s very own nationally award-winning brewery, From The Earth Brewing Company. This bespoke brewpub serves well-balanced craft beers and serves fresh, sustainably raised ingredients in their entrees.
Among the awards bestowed on them include: 2nd Place Winner of USAToday’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice for Best Brewpub of 2023.
If you have yet to make your way over to 38 Hill St, in Roswell, for this annual gathering, you’re missing out on one of Atlanta’s special automotive events.
If you have, you know what we mean when we say there’s magic in the air at Roswell Motoring Festival.
