Abundant sunshine and warm Spring temps brought out the car-loving community for the 19th annual “Memories In Monroe” car show.
While we’ve seen large crowds for this popular downtown event before, this one should easily be a record-breaker when the numbers are tallied. But, what ultimately makes this annual gathering so special is the rich diversity of vehicles that show up.
From rat rods to custom pickups and everything in between lined Main Street and every other adjacent avenue.
Rumors bantered about putting the judged car total at 600, though honestly, there had to be close to 800 vehicles tucked into every nook and cranny. We can tell you with certainty that every one of the 895 downtown parking spaces was being used.
In fact, if you wanted a “main street” parking spot, you had to show up around 5 am at the very latest. To ease the congestion, shuttles ran from the 140 Blaine Street Station parking lot to a drop location behind the historic courthouse.
When people weren’t oohing and aahing over cars, they were enjoying the local cuisine, either in downtown restaurants or from the numerous food trucks. And don’t even get us started on the delicious homemade fudge and numerous dessert stands.

Wes Hofferber – Model Cars Magazine – Rod, the 1989 white C4 Corvette is a true rarity, a unicorn in the automotive world. Chevrolet specifically ordered it to serve as a courtesy car for the prestigious 1989 Indy 500.
For six months, this unique car was in the hands of Rick Mears, the racing champion himself. It’s a car that sits between the Rick Mears limited edition and the Shinoda Mears limited edition, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece of automotive history.

Corvette Cruisers Of Atlanta
Members of the Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) represented the Corvette brand well at this downtown event. Amongst the sea of vehicles, their finely polished Vettes stood out.
So much so that Webb, the CCA president, took home a Top 75 award in a field that had well over 600 vehicles vying for recognition. When they’re not taking home trophies, CCA members enjoy an active events calendar.
Just some of the events on tap this Spring include a Watson Mill Bridge State Park cruise and a trek to the National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, among many others.
If you’re interested in knowing more, they meet the second Monday of the month at Frida’s Mexican Restaurant, 706 Grayson Hwy #206, Lawrenceville, GA 30045.
A Block Party Feel
The “Memories In Monroe” car show has been voted the best community event for nine years in a row, and there are good reasons for this. In addition to the fantastic cars, food, and trophies, there are also main street shopping and live performances to enjoy.
This show has a red circle around it on our calendar because it’s an immersive event that feels like a genuine block party. We always say, “We came for the cars but stayed for the people,” and that’s what makes the “Memories In Monroe” event so special.
It’s easy to see why it continues to grow every year, and we can’t wait for the next one!
