Just how powerful is the draw of the monthly Caffeine and Octane event in the car community? Well, let’s put it this way.
On Sunday, January 3rd, 2021, with wind chill temperatures hovering around 36 degrees, the parking lots were filled. We estimated the crowd size to be north of 18,000.
People sought out the best parking spaces long before the sun came up, and when the wind chill made it feel closer to 32 degrees. Heavy jackets, wool hats, and warm gloves were the order of the day.
The parking lots were packed, and the first two levels of the parking deck were filled. Please forgive us for giving you an eye-roll the next time you say Corvette people only come out in warm weather.
The eighth-generation of Bowling Green’s finest was abundantly on display, as were C3 through C7s.
The Zeus Is Loose
The rarest of the 2020 Corvette colors, Zeus Bronze, braved the cold weather to see and be seen. Only 548 of the color code GUI were produced out of the 2020 production run.
This GM color is identical to the Bronze Sand Metallic launched on the Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and CTS-V Pedestal Edition late last year.
We spotted three Zeus while we were sauntering up and down the rows of automotive eye-candy. When you spend some time carefully examining Zeus Bronze, you notice that it has substantial “travel.”
Which is to say, depending on the brightness of the light source, the color hue and intensity change quite a bit with this color code.
This metallic color is a sun-lover. When the sun’s rays hit it, the color pops due to the metal flake giving it a brilliant wet look.
In a sea of Torch Red, Arctic White, and Black, the Zeus Bronze stands out, and it’s now on the loose around Atlanta.
Hello, Accelerate Yellow!
When you surveyed the sea of cars in the Caffeine & Octane parking lot, many car colors blended into the background, you can’t say that about the new 2020 C8 Accelerate Yellow.
A glance down the various rows instantly told you where this C8 was lurking. There is no hiding anywhere when you’re behind the wheel of this eye-catching color.
Accelerate Yellow was the second rarest color produced. The GM color code GD0 rolled off the production line in Kentucky 688 times out of 40,736 opportunities in 2020.
Even when the sun hid behind cloud cover, this yellow refused to stop beaming. You have to see this color in natural light to appreciate it fully.
Cold Air, Warm Smiles
We know we’re biased toward Corvettes and those who drive them. We’re open about it, unapologetic, and not seeking a support group.
Even with that said, I have to tell you; Corvette people are some of the happiest people at C&O every month. Hands down, not even up for discussion.
We get a chance to spend hours at these events, and without question, those with the biggest smiles are Vette drivers.
Strong Every Time
Every month Caffeine & Octane is strong in terms of vehicle diversity and car enthusiast turnout. Few places give you a chance to see a Yenko Camaro parked beside a tricked out low-rider Impala on one side and a chopped rat ride on the other.
If you’re a real car aficionado, then this is where you call home. Our only gripe? We wished somebody would have turned up the heat a bit.
