2020 could be summed up in the words of Thomas Payne when he said, “These are times that try men’s souls.” Adversity seemed to face us at every turn this year.
So what do you do?
If you’re Ron Mowen, owner of Vengeance Racing, you find a way to step up and help those less fortunate.
Always one to think big, Ron brought his 53′ Vengeance Racing trailer to Miller’s Ale House and invited Atlanta car enthusiasts to come and fill it with toys.
Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta, along with many Vengeance clients and fellow car connoisseurs, filled the parking lot in support.
Vengeance Racing
When you think of Vengeance Racing, you instantly think of asphalt melting horsepower and world records. You would be right to think that, but there is more to Vengeance Racing and Ron Mowen.
Time and again, Vengeance has stepped up this year to support numerous family-friendly car shows across metro Atlanta. Just adding the iconic VR logo to a car show’s program brings instant street credibility to the event.
Judging by the strong turnout, this Toys for Tots event was another Vengeance success.
With all hands on deck, the Vengeance team was there to do whatever was needed to make this a fun, enjoyable experience for children and parents alike.
Toys For Tots Beginning
In 1947 Major Bill Hendricks, a reservist in the U.S. Marine Corps saw an opportunity to bring smiles to less fortunate children at Christmas.
Major Hendricks and a group of Marine reservists collected and distributed more than 5,000 toys to children in low-income families throughout the city of Los Angeles that year.
1947 was the beginning of the Toys for Tots program. Last year the program collected and distributed 19 million toys to 7.3 million less fortunate children.
This community action program now takes place in over 800 communities covering all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
Toy Capacity Of A C7
GM says in their brochures that a C7 Corvette coupe has 15 cubic feet of storage space. We’re not sure how many toys that works out to, but many C7 owners did their level best to find out.
Corvette after Corvette rolled up to drop off fun toys throughout the event.
It didn’t take long before we had renewed respect for the storage capacity of a Vette and the generosity of their owners.
Classic Glass Delivers Again
For the past few years, the Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta has supported the Toys for Tots event at Miller’s Ale House. Even though the event fell on the same day as the club’s annual Christmas party, member turnout was strong.
The club’s giving nature was on display as members did their part to fill the 53′ trailer with toys.
To top it off, the club made a generous donation to Ron Mowen of Vengeance Racing for Toys for Tots.
Miller’s Ale House Trophy?
What can we say? If there were a trophy for “Best Support of the Corvette Lifestyle,” the compassionate people at Miller’s Ale House would get our vote.
This year, they’ve supported Corvette events like VetteStock and other automotive-related events such as the Roswell Motoring Festival at their restaurant.
The location, parking lot layout, and quality of the food make this a fan-favorite choice every time.
If you’re in the Alpharetta area, you owe it to yourself to grab something great to eat at 10750 Davis Drive, Alpharetta, Ga.
You can also call for take-out at (678) 277-2581.
Stepping Up
The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is all in how you use it. Unfortunately, this year has been a stumbling block for many.
People like Ron Mowen, his team, Classic Glass members, and others turned this year’s stumbling block into a stepping stone to step up and provide toys for less-fortunate Atlanta children.
As the crowd in the Miller’s Ale House clearly showed, many car enthusiasts were excited to come out and be a part of Vengeance Racing’s Toys for Tots drive.
