Rainfall is essential to life on this planet.
We get that, but sometimes, we wish it would pick a different time to fall from the sky. A case in point would be during the staging of this year’s annual 4th of July parade in Marietta.
But as they say, “The show must go on,” and go on, it did in true Corvette style. In fact, the resilient “weather warriors” of Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta took it all in stride with nary a complaint uttered.
These parade veterans let the rain roll off their ceramic-coated fenders and kept moving.
Fortunately, the rain was replaced with a wide swath of blue sky once the parade began. By then, the moisture was forgotten, and everyone could get down to celebrating our Nation’s independence.
Griot’s Extra-Large To The Rescue
It seemed like the general discussion went from the best 4th of July decorations for your Corvette to the best drying towel in the blink of an eye. Apparently, a five-minute downpour will do that to Vette owners prepping for a parade.
If you thought there were a variety of opinions on waxes and ceramic coatings, wait for the discussion on drying towels to come up.
Granted, leaving your car to drip dry in the sun or using the wrong drying towel isn’t ideal. Surprisingly, water droplets contain impurities, dirt, and trace elements that won’t evaporate from your car’s finish.
The wrong car drying towels will harden over time and cause streaks and spots that are time-consuming to remove.
And while we can only offer anecdotal evidence, the Griot’s Extra-Large PFM Edgeless Drying Towel worked wonders on several fiberglass cars that day.
Marietta Goes All Out
When it comes to their 4th of July celebrations, the city of Marietta, Ga, goes all out. Their “In The Park Celebration” was a full day of activities that kicked off at 10:00 am with the parade.
Officially known as the Marietta “Let Freedom Ring” Parade, it included over 100 entries, roughly 2,000 participants, and an estimated 30,000 spectators. The spectators lining both sides of the street were enthusiastically patriotic and, in many cases, two or three people deep.
The 1.5-mile route began at Roswell Street Baptist Church, headed west on Roswell St, then north on East Park Square through Glover Park and Marietta Square. The course then worked its way down Cherokee Street, finishing at North Marietta Parkway.
The end of the parade marked the start of the Festival Food concessions, arts and crafts, and family-based activities. The parade included local businesses, civic organizations, beauty queens, bands, scouts, National Guard, elected officials, and dignitaries.
Oh, and of course, about 20 freshly rain-washed Corvettes from Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta.
Summer Full Of Activities
The 4th of July parade in Marietta was one of two parades Classic Glass members participated in that day. The other procession was over in Dunwoody, which also got its fair share of rain.

Doesn’t Get More American
Not sure it gets more American than Corvettes rolling down the boulevard in a 4th of July parade. Obvious brand bias aside, it was easy to get swept into the pure Americana of the moment.
Flag-waving spectators, hooting and hollering about their love for your Corvette, strikes a deep inner chord. If you haven’t experienced it, plan to make those memories next year.
It’s one of those Corvette moments that stay with you. We vividly recall piloting our 1994 dark red metallic Corvette convertible in the Marietta 4th of July parade 25 years ago.
While much has changed over the decades, fortunately, this one Americana event hasn’t in Marietta.
