There is no substitute for experience.
That idiom certainly rings true when it comes to putting on car shows. The good news?
Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) has a talented team that has been hosting successful events for years, and it shows.
From gliding through the registration process to enjoying the amenities, you can tell they’ve got this down to a science.
The intuitive layout of the various tents and food areas made it easy to kick back and enjoy the day.
Separate But Equal
Among this event’s unique aspects is that it is both a Corvette and a Camaro car show. In fact, they are separate but equal regarding judging and number of trophies.
The Camaro side of the event had its judges and 19 available trophies, as did the Corvette side with their judges and 19 trophies. As a spectator, you had the sense you were getting two car shows for the price of one.
As a participant, you were being judged solely against your brand, which made getting a trophy even sweeter. This was a judged event vs. a people’s choice, resulting in close competition for the privilege of taking home hardware.
The other trophies presented were Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine, Top 15, Kids Choice Corvette, and Kids Choice Camaro. In addition to all of these, there were also trophies given out by the various show sponsors.
Property Medics
Rod Worley – Editor – Thank you for sponsoring today’s event. So, Edd, can you tell us more about Property Medics and when you first got into cars?
Edd Stepp – Property Medics Director of Business Development – Property Medics is a single point of contact to get your home back. No matter the cause of damage, we are a complete restoration company working with all independent and major insurance companies.
We’ve been serving the metro Atlanta area for many years.
As far as cars go, I built my first V8 engine when I was 15 years old with my father’s help. I grew up in a dirt track racing family, with some time spent at the drag strip as well.
My uncle ran with Big Daddy Don Garlits back then. When Big Daddy would race at Paradise Drag Strip in Georgia, he always had my uncle as the flagger.
That’s kind of what got me into racing and cars. I’ve owned some great ones, such as a 1966 Fairlane Galaxy and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6.
So, it’s great to be out here today enjoying this car show because Property Medics is very community-oriented. We’re not a company that stays hidden from view.
We’re active in the local community. That’s why we’re here, meeting people and enjoying the show with everyone.
North Georgia AACFA President
Rod Worley – Editor – Brent, thank you for supporting today’s event. Can you tell us a little bit about AACFA and your chapter?
Brent Key – President of the North Georgia chapter of the All-American Camaro & Firebird Association – We’re the North Georgia chapter of the All-American Camaro & Firebird Association.
We have over 36 chapters nationwide and about 900 members. In the North Georgia chapter, we have 55 members. Most of them live in the metro Atlanta area.
Our local chapter has grown tremendously in a short period of time. It’s a fun, active group that does a lot of local shows. I personally do many events for children’s charities and cancer awareness.
Last week, I was in Ringgold, Georgia, where we raised over $60,000 for Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. For that event, we had 679 cars participate.
I enjoy raising funds for needy charities.
Garmon Automotive
Rod Worley – Editor – Thanks, Rick, for sponsoring the car show today. Can you tell us more about Garmon Auto Service?
Rick Newton – Owner of Garmon’s Auto Service – Rod, I bought Garmon Auto Service about six years ago. The owner’s son wanted to retire, and I purchased the business and the property from them.
From the beginning, I wanted this to be an honest, professional auto repair facility that you could confidently bring your car to. Over the years, we’ve upgraded the software and equipment which allows us to service brand-new vehicles.
Now we’ve got the equipment needed to work on new cars and the experience to work on older cars as well. We focus on keeping your daily driver up and running quickly.
Because we have a wide variety of expertise on staff, we can handle any need that comes up. In the end, we love fixing cars and being a part of the local car culture.
So, coming out, meeting people, and sponsoring a car show is something we enjoy doing.
Terrific Event
Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) notched another one in the win column on Saturday, September 16th. The turnout of Camaros and Corvettes continues to grow as word spreads around the tri-state area about this fun gathering of bow tie enthusiasts.
Area businesses have gotten the word as well. The list of sponsors could barely fit on the giant banner, which is a powerful show of relevance and community support.
The gold-level sponsors were Global Electronic Services, Sky Collision, Reliable Heating & Air, Property Medics of Georgia, Johnson Wealth Advisory of Raymond James & Assoc, Garmon’s Auto Service, and All-American Camaro & Firebird Assoc.
This was also a significant financial win for the two charities CCA has chosen to support this year: The Next Stop Foundation and Beyond the Ribbon charities.
The biggest winners were the participants who spent the afternoon mingling with other Corvette and Camaro enthusiasts. They had plenty of highly polished automotive eye candy to keep them busy.
With this year’s event in the books, we can’t wait to see what Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta has in store for next year.
