Michel de Montaigne, a philosopher from the 1500s, wrote: “Saying is a different thing from doing.”
Many say we should do more to support our First Responders, but only a few step up and do something. That can’t be said of the Master’s Car Club as they hosted their 4th annual “Back The Blue” car show in downtown Loganville.
Always a favorite among local car enthusiasts, this year saw several Loganville streets covered with custom cars and trucks. Many only see the light of day at this annual block party.
This single-day festival is as much about saying “Thank You” to those in blue as it is about seeing shiny custom rods. On both accounts, this event is a perennial success.
A Foundation Of Giving
Giving is foundational for the Master’s Car Club in Loganville.
Whether it’s host Hosting “Back The Blue” car shows to support Loganville Police or raising funds for the Almsprings Food Basket housed at Sparky’s Auto Museum, 1209 Nathan Blvd, Loganville, GA.
This active faith-based club manages to stay busy year-round.
When they’re not planning charity car shows, they’re hosting weeknight cruise-ins and an occasional Saturday movie night thrown in for good measure.
As our astute readers will recall, we’ve covered this group in articles such as Downtown Loganville Shuts Down For A Master’s Car Club Event and Master’s Car Club Hosts “Back The Blue” Car Show In Loganville.
Sam Mahdavi Brings The Energy
Want to make any car event better? Invite Sam Mahdavi.
The host of Sam’s Garage on the MotorTrend channel is a crowd favorite and for good reason. For those who tune in to his show, 2023, Season Ten of Sam’s Garage was chock full of memorable moments.
There was the one when Lokar Performance brought a couple of drag cars into his shop or the episode where he put the finishing touches on the HEM Saw Mustang Intimidator.
So, as you can imagine, Sam draws a crowd as much for his genteel nature as he does for his expertise. Of course, he’s in his natural element talking about custom builds with hot rodders.
GSRA Is Everywhere
The bright red table cover of the Georgia Street Rod Association (GSRA) seems to be everywhere. No matter where you turn, if there is a sizeable gathering of car enthusiasts, you’ll find their eye-catching booth.
As one of the oldest automotive and transportation associations in the country, GSRA stays true to its mission of promoting automotive education, safety, and awareness.
Perhaps just as important, they always seem to have fun doing it.
Besides attending events and making their car judging expertise available to others, they also know how to put on a great car show as well.
And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention an aspect that is near and dear to our publishing heart, their StreetTalk magazine.
Shelby’s Hot Wheels
It’s central to our human nature to feel compassion for those going through pain or suffering. But often, we’re left grappling with what to do.
When young Shelby’s friend needed a heart transplant, she organized a car show to raise funds. She was less than six years old at the time.
Fast forward five years to today, and 11-year-old Shelby’s compassion still goes out to children in need. Her “Shelby’s Helping With Hot Wheels” trailer is a colorful fixture at many car shows.
Over the years, she has sold thousands of Hot Wheels to raise money for children who have lost limbs or battling cancer. Half of the proceeds are given as a donation, and half goes to replenishing the inventory.
One year, she raised enough money to provide 634 children with a gift for Christmas. Mattel has taken notice and donated two boxes of Hot Wheels to the effort.
Coming Together
Downtown car shows like this do more than raise funds. Over the past four years, we’ve seen a genuine outpouring of community support for Loganville’s Finest.
With the backdrop of fun music and beautiful show cars, conversations begin effortlessly. Nothing forced, nothing contrived, just people getting a chance to know each other.
All of this culminates in a check-presenting ceremony at Sparky’s Machines a couple of weeks after the event. Which, in many ways, brings this experience full circle to where we started.
It’s true. Saying is different than doing.
It’s also true the Master’s Car Club knows how to “Back The Blue” in Loganville.
