They say that Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth. While that may be true, we suspect if you’re a car enthusiast, the happiest place might be the Caffeine & Octane car show at the Perimeter Mall.
We’ve been making the monthly pilgrimage to North America’s largest car show for months now. We can attest to seeing more smiles than can be easily counted.
The smiles are everywhere and on everybody.
If you’ve never been, trust us, you need to experience this once in your life. Imagine a place on Earth where thousands of people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, nationalities, and views come together to have fun and enjoy automobiles.
If that isn’t the definition of the happiest place on Earth, we don’t know what is.
Staying In The Family
For lovers of trivia, the Corvette is the fifth oldest car model still in production. As a result, several generations have grown up enjoying this iconic brand from Chevrolet.
Still, it’s relatively rare for America’s sportscar to get passed down to the following generations without being sold. Rarer still, to have the subsequent generations as passionate for this iconic brand as the previous.
The story of this immaculate 1958 Snowcrest White C1 starts with the family’s patriarchal grandfather, Dan. Grandpa Dan had a collection of automobiles that he let his grandsons and cousins play in when they were young.
As they got older, he even let them take them out for a drive. With his years advancing, Grandpa Dan passed his small car collection on to his grandchildren.
It was then that Lee & Holly became the owner of this fantastic 1958 Corvette. During last year’s pandemic, Lee took the opportunity to restore the worn and faded red interior.
The interior is now a beautiful charcoal gray, which was unique to the 1958 model. To share the story, Lee has put together a website to commemorate this family treasure.
The Good Times Are Rolling
The tag line for the Amazing Corvette Club of Atlanta is, “Let the good times roll,” and roll they did right into C&O for the June show. This fun-loving group is always up for representing America’s Sportscar at local events.
Since we last spoke to the club’s founder, Steve Bracken, the club has grown. The membership rolls have swelled to the point that they now have two Atlanta satellite branches plus the main club.
You can learn more about this group in our article, “Conversation With Steve Bracken From Amazing Corvettes Club.”
Smiles All-Around
C&O draws crowds that can easily exceed 20,000 because of the rich diversity and quality of the cars that show up.
While the vehicles change monthly, the one consistent is the pure & straightforward shared love of cars by those who attend.
From the often dark 7 am start time through 11 am, the parking area around Perimeter Mall transforms into a shared Disneyland-type feeling of wonderment.
C&O becomes the happiest place on Earth for car enthusiasts, as sincere smiles often show.
