Old Friends Car Club Delivers A Top-Notch Experience To Gainesville

They say your reputation precedes you. When it comes to a car show put on by Old Friends Car Club in Gainesville, Ga, that is clearly the case.

Officially, the sign-up for the event started at 10:00 am. Though by that time, there were over 60 already in line to get the car show started.

And oh, what a car show it was!

The niche of Old Friends Car Club is 1930’s to 70’s classics, and it showed in the attendance. The quality and quantity of that group alone left you feeling downright sorry for the judges.

For every winner, there were at least two or three, only a whisker away. If you picked up one of the 35 beautiful twin-piston mounted trophies here, then you’ve earned it against stiff competition.

Timeless First-Generation Beauty

Every generation of Corvette draws crowds of admirers at car shows, though none more than the first-generation. Just something about the timeless styling and nostalgic chrome bumpers always elicits a response from onlookers.

These days it is becoming increasingly rare to see these vintage beauties at local car shows. Often they spend their time on special trailers traveling to regional and national events.

So you can imagine how excited we were to see Joe & Debra’s breath-taking 1961 Honduras Maroon roadster pull into the event!

We couldn’t resist squeezing in a couple of questions.

Rod Worley – Editor – Joe, you and Debra have a stunning 1961 Honduras Maroon Corvette roadster.  Where did you buy the Vette?

Joe – 1961 Vette Owner – I bought the car originally from a gentleman in Savannah, Georgia, sight unseen. I brought it up to New York, where we were living, and restored it in 2012.

Three previous owners had previously tried to restore this car, and we finished it up.  It’s a challenge to have these cars, but it’s also very rewarding.

Rod Worley – Editor – So Joe, how many car shows do you drive to in a month, and is there a range limit?

Joe – 1961 Vette Owner – Hmm, in a month? We’ll drive to at least four, maybe five. I like to try to go to every show that I can within about a 20-mile radius of my house.

We love the shows because you get a chance to meet interesting people and find things out about your car that you never knew.  For the people who remember these cars, it touches a nerve and brings back great memories.

Rod Worley – Editor – Joe, we couldn’t agree with you more.

Old Friends Car Club Delivers

The tree-lined parking area behind the United Community Bank is a great location to host a car show. Just off the main thoroughfare, it provides easy access while also giving you the feeling of seclusion.

The local car community has this show circled in red on the calendar as soon as it’s announced. Everyone knows this venerable club has what it takes to put on a quality event.

We know it’s a team effort, but Johnny Smith, David Spain, David Greenwood, and Reggie Forrester deserve additional accolades for this smooth-running show.

On this beautiful Spring Saturday, there is no denying that the Old Friends Car Club delivered a top-notch car show experience to Gainesville.
