Keeping up with the Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) is a full-time job. This Lawrenceville-based collection of Corvette enthusiasts is always on the move.
They’ve already had eight road trips to various points of interest this year alone. The CCA activity page is always chock full of fun activities.
So when they invited us to join the club’s excursion to the Savoy Automobile Museum, we quickly jumped behind the wheel of our Grand Sport. Not that we need much of an excuse to visit this world-class automotive attraction.
Since the Museum’s opening on December 8th, 2021, it has been one of our favorite destinations. And, judging by the substantial number of cars in the parking lot, we’re not alone in that opinion.
Rotating Galleries
There are five primary exhibition galleries for those who haven’t visited the Savoy Automobile Museum. Four of these galleries rotate out their exhibits of automobiles periodically.
The fifth gallery houses the permanent Savoy Collection. They also ensure that each rotating gallery showcases automobiles around a common theme.
While visiting, the featured exhibits were Front Runners, American Art Deco, Woodies, Pirelli 150 years, and the Savoy Collection.
What strikes you instantly is the incredible quality of the automobiles on display and the 360-degree access you have to them. You rarely have the freedom to savor these mechanical expressions of art in such a relaxed, open fashion.
We would be hard-pressed to single out a favorite gallery, but if push-came-to-shove, the Woodies leave us thunderstruck every time.
Homage To Pirelli
Pirelli is among the most iconic, Mount Rushmore-level names in all motorsports. The Savoy Automobile Museum pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of this brand in the United States with an exclusive exhibition.
The brand’s journey is conveyed through Pirelli: The Story of a Company – 150-Year History of Passion and Innovation.
The curated collections include rare finds such as the 1947 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Cabriolet, 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder, and 1987 Lamborghini Countach.
This adrenaline-pumping assemblage of proven performance showcases a dozen vehicles not soon forgotten. High on our list? The 1991 Ferrari F40 and the 1967 Iso Grifo – Series 1.
Pirelli began in Milan in 1872 and today stands as a global brand known for its cutting-edge technology. In addition, they’re widely regarded for high-end production excellence and a passion for innovation that draws heavily on their Italian roots.
Pro Tip – Bonus Activity
As anyone who has tried to run a club event will tell you, it’s one thing to organize it on paper. Getting a large group of high-horsepower car enthusiasts to stick to the plan is quite another.
Much to his credit, years of experience, and endless patience, Stephen from Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta knows how to make events work.
In our experience, moving car people orderly from point A to point B is “like herding cats.” This idiom paints a clear picture of how difficult it is to get one cat to do what you want. Now imagine trying to organize several cats.
Fortunately, Stephen and his wife are seasoned pros at delivering fun events that go off without a hitch.
A pro feature that resonates with club members is the “bonus activity.” Here’s how it works.
They will plan an event and then, at the conclusion, mention a bonus activity for those who want to keep the fun going. In the case of this Savoy Museum event, it was a bonus drive to a nearby winery.
Nice touch, Stephen!
Always A Great Experience
The Savoy Automobile Museum connects visitors to the cultural diversity of the automobile with every carefully curated gallery. To this end, their rotating galleries always provide new and intriguing collections for us to applaud.
Add caravaning up to 3 Savoy Lane with Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA), and now you’ve got an afternoon of honest fun. One thing is for sure.
Next time CCA heads to The Savoy Automobile Museum, we want to tag along.
