There is no shortage of options available in the quest for more performance from your LS/GM power plant. It seems a new speed shop either opens up or closes every month in Atlanta.
The splashy ads you see online promise incredible performance at bargain-basement prices. But remember, it’s your hard-earned money you’re putting down on the counter at the end of the day.
How do you know where to go? Who to trust? We went looking for answers to those same questions. Our search landed us on the doorstep of Vengeance Racing in Cumming, Ga.
This article is the fifth of a five-part series with Ron Mowen, owner of Vengeance Racing. Today’s discussion focuses on what separates the Vengeance Racing experience from other tuners/builders across the country. What makes the VR build process different for their clients?
What follows is our transcribed interview adapted from our new “Vettes of Atlanta” podcast. Enjoy!
What Separates Vengeance?
ROD WORLEY – Editor – We’ve have covered a lot of ground today, but is there one question that I should have asked you but didn’t?
RON MOWEN – Vengeance Racing – Well, you know, Rod, we talked about Vengeance’s race shop and racing, but I think the one thing we didn’t touch on is what separates Vengeance from everyone else. There’s an absolute ton of performance shops out there.
I think what separates us is vital for people to understand. They need to know why they should choose Vengeance Racing and what makes us different.
From the beginning, we wanted to set the bar high. We wanted to provide an experience that you can’t get when you walk through a typical speed shop’s doors.
If you walk into an average speed shop you typically have one or two guys and or a husband and wife. They’re the tuner and the ones who order parts. They’re the customer service rep, the builder, and the floor sweeper.
They do it all. And you can’t do everything and be great at everything. You have to be specific in what you do and be great at a few things.
I’ve spent a lot of time making sure we have the best people in place for their role to exceed the customer’s expectations.
We want to provide an experience that they can’t get elsewhere.
Setting The Bar High
ROD WORLEY – Editor – Successful businesses will tell you that customer service makes or breaks your business. What does Vengeance Racing do to exceed the client’s expectations?
RON MOWEN – Vengeance Racing – When you walk through our doors, we’ve got a dedicated staff ready to sit down with you and discuss your build. They’re great with customers.
They know how to build packages based on the customer’s goals and requirements. We take the extra step with their build.
We send you pictures every day while we’re doing your build. You see the work we’ve done and the progress we’ve made.
You see the components you’ve paid for actually being installed on your vehicle. Many people don’t trust the mechanic to actually install the parts they’ve paid for in the build.
With us, not only do we give you back the parts that came off your vehicle, but we also send you documentation showing what we put into your car. Also, I think the biggest thing is the fact that we stand behind our product.
You know, we’re not perfect. We have humans working here. Humans are prone to making mistakes. But as a company, we stand behind those mistakes.
We take care of our customers when situations do arise, and that’s what’s gotten us a strong reputation in this industry. That’s why we have enjoyed the success we’ve had as a company for almost 15 years.
I can’t tell you the number of shops that I’ve seen come and go in that time. They often fail because they mismanage their funds, and they are not able to stand behind their customers and take care of them.
The Focus Is On The Client
ROD WORLEY – Editor – Your clients come back to you over and over again. Which is a great testimony, but how do you do it? In the world of high-end performance, sometimes parts break.
How do you keep your clients happy and coming back for more?
RON MOWEN – Vengeance Racing – In the performance world, things are going to break; things are going to fail; customers are going to be unhappy. As a business, you have to be there to take care of them and reassure them their investment is sound.
If you do that, they want to do business with you again in the future.
So we put a lot of focus on taking care of our customers and ensuring that they’re happy with their experience front to back, not only before and during, but after the sale as well. That’s very important to us.
That’s where track support comes from, you know, getting out there with them and making sure their cars are performing as they expect and as they should.
The last point to touch on would be the performance. We talked about Pony Wars a little bit, but if you spend some time on our YouTube channel or go out and search, our name will pop up quite a bit.
If you look at these half-mile venues around the country, the Speed Addicts, or Street Car Takeover, the name Vengeance Racing is going to show up quite a bit in the winner’s circle.
We’ve got a proven reputation for making big, reliable horsepower that can go out and win races and set records. That’s very important.
In the end, though, it takes every part of our business working together to have a successful performance facility. For us to be here for our clients for another 15 years.
The Right Choice
When we started this five-part series, we didn’t know how it would turn out. Yes, we’d heard about the team in Cummings, a lot of people have across the country.
And yes, we’d watch the professionally produced videos of Corvettes pulling substantial numbers on dynos. Seen the Hollywood-quality videos of Vettes lighting the tires up and flying down the track to heart-thumping music.
We even watched the Pony Wars series a couple of times. And while that is Vengeance Racing, it doesn’t begin to tell the story of this ultra-clean speed shop.
Until you’ve toured the facilities, talked to Ron, and seen the team’s military precision at work, you don’t get it. The truth is world records are lining the walls for a reason.
The prized possessions of well-informed owners are routinely being shipped here from across the country for a reason. The answer is simple. For 15 years, Vengeance Racing has been the right choice for those who want reliable high-end performance done right.
