Veterans Day is near and dear to the hearts of many of us who enjoy Corvettes. Our ranks are replete with those who have honorably served in this country’s armed forces over the years.
More than just a day to fly Old Glory, it’s a day to thank veterans for their service to our great nation in times of war and peace.
Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day in May. Veterans Day celebrates all U.S. military veterans’ service, while Memorial Day honors those who had died while in military service.
Another military holiday in May, Armed Forces Day honors those currently serving in the U.S. military.
For many, the different events can be confusing, but what is crystal clear is the enthusiastic turnout of Corvette owners in support of this national holiday.
American Legion Post 201
If you’ve never visited American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta, you owe it to yourself to stop by with your family. Founded in 1946, Post 201 occupies 13 acres and exists to serve the country’s war veterans.
As you stroll down the walkway, you’re emotionally moved by the almost 8,000 bricks inscribed with the names of Georgians who have served in our nation’s armed services. A static display of military equipment adds to this moving experience.
The “Walk of Memories” is a striking reminder that freedom is never free. Our armed forces’ men and women have paid a heavy price for the freedoms we enjoy every day.
At The Center Of The Action
You can instantly tell if Patricia Chamlee is organizing an event, because she’s always at the center of the action. She’s out there warmly greeting everyone who pulls in, waving, taking pictures, and handing out a million smiles.
Patricia’s infectious enthusiasm lifts the mood of any show she organizes. Her well-deserved reputation for putting on fun events consistently translates to a strong turnout, even when the weather doesn’t fully cooperate.
Vette Nation Supports
Even though the skies were threatening all day long, Corvette owners came out in force to show their support. All too often Vette owners get a bad rap for being fair-weather enthusiasts. Rest assured, that wasn’t the case today.
Not only did Vette Nation show up, but they brought a diverse cross-section of the brand. From David & his wife’s C1 1962 Honduras Maroon convertible to Charles’s C3 1969 Riverside Gold convertible to Paul’s “All Pinks Out” winning C5 race-prepped dragster coupe.
Well Done Post 201
We want to thank Post Commander Allen Dudley and all the members of American Legion Post 201. Both for their service to our country and their genuine hospitality. This was a fun car show, as well as a somber time for reflection.
For many in attendance that day, it was a time to remember once again that freedom is never really free.
