What’s something you seldom see on a Corvette cruise?
If you answered early model Corvettes, you’d be right. The reasons why become apparent when you ponder it for a moment.
Reasons such as not wanting to rack up extra mileage, mechanical reliability, and lack of modern creature comforts come quickly to mind.
So, what do you do if you’ve got an early classic? Besides an NCRS event, where do you go to meet those who share your passion for these early examples of America’s Sports Car?
For many, the options list quickly shrinks down until you’re left with local car shows. That was before second-generation owner Dana Bounds from Classic Class Corvette Club of Marietta had a brilliant idea.
How about an exclusive cruise designed for first through fourth-generation Corvettes?
Strong Turnout
Rod Worley – Editor – Dana, a cruise event exclusively for C1 through C4 Corvettes is a great idea. What influenced you to plan this type of event?
Dana Bounds – Event Organizer – Being partial to the early generations, I wanted to do something tailored for our Classic Glass members who have one of those first four generations.
This outing was an excellent opportunity to get out and socialize with fellow club members who also own one of these beautiful classics. Most cruises, as you know, are geared toward the later models.
With the early ones, distance is a factor you must consider. Most classic owners want to enjoy their cars but not put too many miles on them.
We had a good turnout for our first event, with 11 Corvettes (including mine). The staging area was at the NorthStar Church overflow parking lot in Kennesaw.
We caravaned over to The Original Steak and Rib House in Cartersville. There are plans to do it again in the spring before it gets too hot because, as you know, some of us don’t have air conditioning.
The Original Steak And Ribs House
We’re not sure you can host a Corvette cruise these days without ending up at a good restaurant. It might actually be a written law somewhere; we’ll have to check and get back to you.
Either way, this classic cruise had a scenic backroad jaunt to The Original Steak and Ribs House in Cartersville. A crowd favorite since opening in 2015, this restaurant knows its way around choice cuts of USDA meat.
We could talk about the fresh-cut salads that are cool to just the right temperature or the unique sauces and dressings they make daily. Yes, we could go into all that, but it would just make us both hungry.
Suffice it to say that if you’re in the area, it’s a good place to stop.
Smiles, Waves & Turning Heads
It’s next to impossible to caravan eleven beautiful classic Corvettes and not get smiles, waves, and heads to turn. Nope, it’s not possible.
It’s all part and parcel of driving America’s Sports Car. In fact, some would venture to say it’s one of the best perks of ownership.
Be that as it may, this group got noticed, as you would expect. We would also expect more classic Corvette owners to flock to Dana’s event in the Spring.
If you own a first through fourth-generation Corvette, you will want to be a part of this unique experience.
