Some things are just different in the South. Neighbor helping neighbor is just a way of life here.
Especially for those holding car shows in the Gainesville, Georgia area. This fun cruise-in put on by the Old Friends Car Club on Saturday, July 11th, was an excellent example of what we mean.
The Old Friends Car Club members helped James Simpson organize one of the best car shows of the year at the Simpson Farm. Mr. Simpson turned around and donated the good looking trophies for this event.
To bring it full circle, the event was held at the United Community Bank. Milton Robson, a local, nationally-known car collector, helped influence the bank to let the club use the facilities that night.
In the end it was just neighbor helping neighbor to put on this event for everyone’s enjoyment.
Passionate About Their Car Show
Some communities are more passionate about their car show than others. Gainesville is definitely one of those car show loving communities.
There was already a crowd of people lining the main entrance a half-hour before it started. Their folding chairs perfectly situated to watch the long line of cars roll in.
Their automotive passion extended to their beautifully restored vehicles as well. The range went from a neon green McLaren to a very sharp classic Ford Bronco II and everything in between.
There was truly something here for everybody and of course many beautiful Corvettes.
A Show Stopper
Keith Stephenson’s custom 2016 Z06 Corvette has been gathering trophies everywhere he goes. He only had a few minutes to stop by and let us feast on the latest touches to his award winning ride.
Never one to rest on his laurels, this year Keith has stepped up his game. A beautiful full length racing stripe, scissor doors and Elkhart blue accent interior touches have been tastefully added.
We hope to bring you a full article on the many nuances that make Keith’s fiberglass creation a contender for top show honors wherever he goes. Stay tuned.
Old Friends Indeed
This event Saturday night was as much a chance to talk to serious car lovers in the community as anything else. The quality of the restorations, the presentation level of the vehicles in attendance overall, was impressive.
John Steinmetz’s stunning 1957 Bel Air, and Carolyn Sisson’s 1967 Corvette were just two of the well-deserving trophy winners that caught our eye.
The Corvette faithful were well represented. Several of which took home trophies for their hard work. Area clubs such as Amazing Corvettes and Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta also had members present.
Throughout the night, the Old Friends Car club kept the energy high through frequent cash drawings and great music. The venue itself is perfect with its many shade trees to congregate underneath responsibly and socialize.
For sure, this cruise-in put on by the Old Friends Car Club was done in true Southern style.
