Hanging Out With The Dixie Cruisers In Winder, Ga

Sometimes after a crazy week of work, you need to take your foot off the gas and grab some “me time” to decompress. What better way to do it than hanging out at a Saturday night car show?

It just so happens the Dixie Cruisers car club puts on a car show on the 4th Saturday of the month from 5 pm to 8 pm. The Holly Mill Mall, at 189 Athens Road, in Winder, Ga, is home to the event. (Behind the OZK Bank building)

As the sun slowly fades, the fun ratchets up as the locals bring out their beloved classics and street rods. From 1930’s Fords to fire-breathing Z06 Corvettes, the diversity of eye candy kept us busy all night.

Z06s Bring The HP

Among the street rods that rolled in were two 2015 Laguna Blue supercharged Z06 Corvettes. Without fanfare, they took their rightful place among the elite power brokers of the show.

We are fond of saying that we live in quite possibly the last golden age of internal combustion automotive performance. A period so technologically advanced that a vehicle rolling off the assembly line today needs at least 500 hp even to get noticed.

Luckily the Z06s showed up with an LT4, 6.2-liter, direct-injected, supercharged pushrod V8 that produces 650 hp. This GM marvel produces 12 hp more than the sixth-generation LS9 V8 motor in the old Corvette ZR1, which was also supercharged.

Just as a side note, the 2015 Z06 offers standard magnetorheological dampers, electric power steering, a seven-speed manual, or an optional eight-speed automatic.

It also has an electronically controlled, variable-lockup limited slip and a removable roof panel to up the cool factor.

Athens Corvette Club

If you’ve lived in Atlanta for a while, you remember the Athens Corvette Club. The club has been quiet for a minute now, but the good news? They’re bringing the club back bigger and better than ever!

This Dixie Cruisers event in Winder was their kick-off cruise to shake off the cobwebs and run through the gears. Judging by the energy and enthusiasm of those who attended, this club has a brighter future ahead of it.

If you’re interested in seeing what this club has to offer, you can find them on Facebook at Athens Corvette Club.

Smooth-Running Event

The Dixie Cruisers may very well be the oldest car club in the Southeastern United States. The car shows are held throughout the year to raise money for needy local organizations such as Feed the Hungry, Treehouse, and Veterans Resource Center.

The decades of experience putting on car shows translate into a smooth-running event covering all of the bases. The music keeps the mood light and festive, while the 50/50 and numerous door prizes keep everyone attentive.

Sometimes the work week grinds you down, and you look to Saturday night to be the much-needed reset button.

If that’s the case, you should consider hanging out with the Dixie Cruisers Car Club at their car show in Winder.
