How do you like your speed? If your need for speed runs to the razor’s edge, then we have a night you won’t want to miss.
The legendary Louise Ann Noeth, aka “Landspeed Louise,” brings her new book “Images of Modern America, Bonneville’s Women of Land Speed Racing” to the Savoy Automobile Museum.
This special presentation is for one night only, Tuesday, March 8th, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the museum’s state-of-the-art presentation theatre. You’ll recall we recently covered the new Cartersville museum in our article Savoy Museum Celebrates The Artistic Expression Of The Automobile.
When we heard Louise was bringing her energy and Bonneville Salt Flat stories to the Savoy, we grabbed our red sharpie and headed to the calendar.
But, before we would write an article recommending the upcoming event, we wanted to know more about “Landspeed Louise.” Call us old-fashion, but if we don’t believe in it, we’re not going to recommend it to you.
So, we let our fingers do the walking.
After spending almost two hours talking to Louise, here is what we know. First, her scheduled 90-minute presentation at the Savoy won’t exhaust the depths of her Bonneville experiences.
To hear it all, you’d probably have to bring a warm sleeping bag and lots of gooey comfort food.
Second, when she talks about the salt flats and the inner workings of the automotive world, there’s a fiery conviction forged out of having lived it.
Finally, to get the most out of the evening’s presentation, you need to pop the hood and peer inside to see what truly drives Louise Ann Noeth.
A Lifetime Of Speed
Speed has been one of the consistents in Louise Ann Noeth’s life. Whether touring North America behind the wheel of her 250 mph jet dragster or covering the automotive world, speed has been at the heart of it all.
After successfully campaigning her jet dragster, Louise switched gears and joined Petersen Publishing Company in 1979. Not surprisingly, Louise became the first female editor-in-chief in the firm’s history.
She produced HOT ROD Industry News and SEMA Show HOT ROD Hotline. During this time, Louise was on the development team for HOT ROD Nationals and CAR CRAFT Nationals.
Along the way, she also helped TEAM Vesco achieve the 458 mph world wheel-driven record. In 1984 Louise founded her own production company, LandSpeed Productions.
Did we mention she has written three books and is a speed/extreme consultant for television and Hollywood?
Louise’s writing or photography has graced The New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, Salt Lake Tribune, Autoweek, The Auto Channel, Performance Racing Industry, and West News magazine.
Hidden In Plain Sight
Through her latest book, Louise brings the women of the Bonneville Salt Flats to the forefront. She opens our eyes to those who have been hidden in plain sight far too long.
But, since the early days of speed, these women have been here at this densely packed salt pan in Tooele County in northwestern Utah. The women who have broken world records here have garnered hard-fought respect among their speed peers.
Louise opens the iris of the camera lens wide to capture the unquenchable chase for speed and the inner drive of these women. Their struggles, determination, and unyielding resolve are on full Kodachrome display.
If indeed, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” then “Bonneville’s Women of Land Speed Racing” is a tome of immense weight.
The chapters are grouped by the machine type the women raced. So first off the line is “Fast Females on Four Wheels,” followed by “Lady Wranglers of Jet and Rocket Powered Cars.”
Next follows “Women Riders” with their two-wheeled rides. Finally, the book concludes with “Unsung Heroines,” where you meet the volunteers who truly make the event work.
No Stranger To Salt Or Speed
Louise Ann Noeth is no stranger to the salt or what drives people to world-record speeds. After her Tuesday, March 8th presentation, you won’t be a stranger either.
The Savoy Automobile Museum, with its collection of rare automobiles, is tailor-made to host this special event. The plush stadium seating of the state-of-the-art presentation theatre ensures you’ve got the perfect vantage point.
We hope to see you there for this special one-night-only presentation by “Landspeed Louise” on Bonneville’s Women of Land Speed Racing.
