From my past, I recall the phrase, “Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” And just like the sand, time passes all too quickly.
It seems like yesterday we were chronicling the fun of this event in our article: “Show Your Ride For The Ribbons” Brings Out Car Lovers.
With last year’s fond memories in hand, we were eager to slide over to the Ironshield Brewery on 457 North Chestnut Street to see what they had in store for us this year.
We knew Beyond the Ribbon founder Bobbie Menneg and her team would be eager to replicate their exciting success. They didn’t disappoint if the packed parking lots and broad smiles were any indications.
On April 30th, 2022, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm, the event featured a 50/50 raffle, Best of Show, Top 15, Silent Auction, Survivor’s Choice, People, Kid, and Mayor’s Choice trophies.
Various food vendors kept the crowd fueled up. Ironshield Brewery pulled double duty by handling everyone’s thirst and providing live music for entertainment.
“Beyond The Ribbon” Helps Those In Need
If the mission of Beyond the Ribbon is to advocate for support and resources beyond the diagnosis of cancer, to educate, inspire hope, and cultivate awareness, then this event was a huge success.
While there was good food and fun times to be had by all, the focus remained on supporting this valuable multi-faceted charitable organization. One of the facets we learned more about was Jane’s Closet.
Jane’s Closet is a food pantry and distribution method created to specifically address the needs of cancer patients in our local community experiencing financial hardship heightened by a cancer diagnosis. Jane’s Closet helps ease those hardships with meals and nutritional sustenance to meet the needs of families who lack the resources.
Another area was Pat’s Pillows and Pads. Bobbie Menneg, Beyond the Ribbon’s founder, developed Pat’s Pillows and Pouches program after experiencing discomfort first-hand following cancer surgery.
Patients use these custom hand-sewn small pillows, drain pouches, and seat belt cushions to help protect post-surgical sites from unintentional pressure and accidental bumps. In addition, these pillows work wonders for patients with abdominal incisions when held against you when coughing or sneezing.
Not surprisingly, Beyond the Ribbon was voted one of the “Best Of Gwinnett 2020.” At Vettes of Atlanta magazine, we encourage you to support their mission to help those in need in our community.
Ironshield Brewing Hosts Again
For the second straight year, the good people of Ironshield Brewing stepped up as a sponsor and ground zero hosts for all the excitement. As you recall, the experienced brewmasters of Ironshield painstakingly brew authentic European lagers and ales.
From their facilities at 457 North Chestnut Street in Lawrenceville, the fun times and music flowed out to the adjacent streets. So if you’re feeling parched this hot Atlanta summer, this brewery should be on your shortlist of watering holes.
The Biergarten & Tap Room hours of operation are Wednesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm. If you’re headed out over the weekend, the hours are Friday 4 pm to 11 pm, Saturday is 12 noon to 11 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm.
If you have questions or want to host an event at these facilities, we recommend reaching out to Tyler via email at [email protected]. Are you feeling more interactive? Call 770-882-2172.
They Came, They Saw, They Conquered
According to ancient Roman historian Suetonius’s “Lives of the Caesars,” Julius Caesar used the Latin phrase Veni, Vidi, Vici during a Roman triumph in 46 B.C.
Surprisingly, Suetonius’s Latin quote could have referred to Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta’s trophy haul. The club brought in about 15 examples of America’s Sports Car and went home with a full C8 frunk load of awards.
As is often the case, this experienced crew of car show pros knows how to get their Corvettes ready for the keen eyes of judges. But, of course, hosting an annual Corvette car show for nine years doesn’t hurt either.
While we’re at it, their next annual Corvette car show is on October 8th, 2022. If it’s as much fun as last year’s event, you won’t want to miss it.
On a charitable side note, CCA currently has a Glock Gun Raffle going on as a fundraiser.
The grand prize drawing is for a Glock 48/9mm with a shooting package including 100 rounds of ammo, an NRA backpack shooting glasses with the case, and shooting earmuffs. The drawing is on July 11th, 2022, at 7 pm.
The tickets are $10.00 each with no purchase limit. There will be only 500 tickets available, and the winner need not be present to win.
Fun In The Sun For Charity
You’ve got to count it as a good day when you spend a beautiful Spring day with friends at a car show. Adding in the fact that you’re supporting a needed local charity puts the day over the top.
Often car shows like these are a significant source of funding for community-based charities. So it’s great to see such an outpouring of support from the area car community.
Now that this “Show Your Ride For The Ribbons” car show is in the books, we’re looking forward to next year’s event. And as we all know, it will be here before we know it.
