Vettes of Atlanta Magazine takes the next step in its evolutionary process by introducing a podcast series. Aptly named Vettes of Atlanta Magazine Podcast Series, this venture strives to bring the Corvette lifestyle to our growing fan base in a new and exciting way.
Podcasting is nothing new for us. In fact, we’ve been active in the podcast space for about ten years and have garnered over 400,000 downloads in 167 countries worldwide.
The premise for this show is simple. We’re going to bring you the heart of the Corvette lifestyle.
Yes, we’ll interview the big names that you read about, but we’re also going to be hearing from everyday owners, like yourself, whose’s passion runs deep for America’s only sports car. Our goal is to produce two podcasts a month while also publishing a new article every Friday.
What follows is the edited transcript of our introductory episode. In the future, we’ll provide transcripts and links for each episode to let you delve deeper.
For now, kick back in your favorite chair, hit “Play” and enjoy!
Introducing The Show
Hello and welcome to the show!
I’m your host, Rod Worley, the editor of Vettes of Atlanta Magazine. Today I just wanted to take a few minutes and introduce myself, this podcast, and our online magazine, as well.
First off, you can reach our magazine by typing “Vettes of Atlanta Magazine” into your favorite browser. Then, of course, you can always contact me by email at “[email protected].”
Also, I wanted to provide some background context and let you know what to expect from our upcoming episodes. Let’s start off with the real reason you’re here, and that’s the podcast itself.
The premise for this show is simple.
As you might imagine from the title, we’re going to talk about Corvettes, but specifically the Corvette lifestyle. For me, it’s the people and their incredible stories that truly breathe life into the Corvette lifestyle.
Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of fun to roll up your sleeves and jump into the mechanical aspects of America’s only sports car. And for sure, we enjoy talking about the various changes down through the generations.
But in my opinion, the people are what make the Corvette lifestyle the envy of the automotive world. I mean, hands down, the people we interview and talk with will make this show worthy of your precious time.
Have no fear, though. This show isn’t about me just droning on.
Instead, it’s going to be Q&A discussion-based with one, maybe two guests per episode. Perhaps we’ll even add a guest host if we find the right person.
The length of the show will be somewhere between 20 to 30 minutes. Which coincidently is about the driving time of the average commute in America.
See, we know a thing or two about podcasting. We’ve been doing it for about ten years now.
Our podcast in another genre has pulled in over 400,000 downloads in 167 countries worldwide, so enough about the podcast.
Corvette Love Affair
As far as my backstory goes, well, that’s easy enough. I’ve wanted a Corvette since I can remember.
The first time I got a chance to drive one was just after graduating from high school way back in the Summer of 1975. I’ll never forget, it was a Monza Red, 1969 coupe, black interior with side pipes.
You know, there are just some cars, when you see them for the first time, just speak to your soul. I’m sure right now, you can close your eyes and picture your first dream car.
That’s just the way it is for car people like us. It’s kind of what brings us together. Oh, but I wanted that 69 Corvette in the worst way, but in the end, it wasn’t to be.
So fast forward through six years in the Air Force, four years at Penn State University, and a busy career. Then one morning, I rolled out of bed to find myself in my mid 40’s.
Funny how life works that way, but it does. I mean, tell me if I’m wrong, but in my experience, years can slip through your fingers so quickly. It’s like grabbing a handful of sand at the beach.
The more tightly you hold it, the more sand slips through your fingers.
So I woke up one sunny day and, for some reason, started taking stock of my life. And trust me, in my case, that’s never a good self discussion to have because it always ends up that I should have done more with the time I had.
There I was, a full-fledge mid-life crisis staring back at me, with only two options as I saw it on the table. First, my wife and I could get matching tattoos and a fully dressed-out Harley-Davidson, or we could get a Corvette.
Not so surprisingly, it wasn’t long before I got my first Vette. It was a 1994 dark red metallic black top convertible with a tan interior.
Wow, was it beautiful!
From there, naturally, other Corvettes have found their rightful place in our garage. You really can’t have just one, in my honest opinion.
It wasn’t long afterward we joined our first Corvette club. That was, hmm, oh, I guess it was over 20 years ago now.
It seems to be more of that “sands of time” thing happening again. Right?
Well, from there, the rest, as they say, is history.
