Owning a Corvette can be a great experience in life. Having a knowledgeable Chevrolet dealership that you can trust makes that experience even better.

Long gone are the days when you could park your fiberglass creation under a shade tree and work on it yourself. Also gone are the days when you could order your Corvette in any color you wanted, as long as it was white.

Life has gotten complicated.

For 36 years the family owned Day’s Chevrolet dealership in Acworth has been supporting the Corvette community through their SuperVette Saturday event. We tracked down Daniel Diemer, the Owner & Dealer Principal of Day’s Chevrolet to find out more about this pillar of support in the Atlanta Corvette community.

What follows is our transcribed interview adapted from our new “Vettes of Atlanta” podcast. Enjoy.

How It All Started

ROD WORLEY – Editor – Before we start, I want to thank you, Daniel, for taking the time today to share your insights. I know our readers appreciate it.

While everyone in Atlanta has heard of Day’s Chevrolet in Acworth, some may not be familiar with the dealership’s history. Can you share your backstory with us as well as the history of Day’s Chevrolet?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – I’d be glad to Rod. Day’s Chevrolet started in 1959. My great grandfather, Levi Day, and my grandfather Jack Diemer bought the dealership in 1959 from Bill Hamner.

My family lived in Smyrna and had a small used car business there. When the Chevrolet dealership came up for sale in Acworth, they thought it would be an excellent opportunity to get more into the car business.

They both worked at Lockheed at the time, so they took a big chance when they bought the dealership and moved to Acworth. Together they worked hard through the 60s and 70s and even the 80s.

They were trying to establish a business, build a reputation, and get the dealership moving forward.

Next Generation Steps In

ROD WORLEY – Editor – When did your dad and his brother get into the family business?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – Calvin, who is my dad, and his brother got into the car business at the dealership in the early 80s.

By the mid-80s, they were running the dealership. My grandfather and great grandfather were moving towards retirement.

My dad and his brother became the owners of the dealership in the late 80s, early 90s. They had a great working relationship, always getting along.

In 1999 my dad bought his brother’s stock because he wanted to stay in the car business. Also my brother and I were starting to show interest in working here.

At the time, my uncle wanted to branch out and do some other things. My dad moved the dealership from its original home in downtown Acworth to our location here on Cobb Parkway, Highway 41, in 2003.

The new 28-acre location gave us more exposure, traffic, and growth potential. It turned out to be a great move as this area continues to grow and develop.

Learning The Business

ROD WORLEY – Editor – I imagine you started working at the dealership at an early age. When did you start?

What positions have you held at the dealership?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – As far as my involvement in the dealership, I started working here when I was about 14 years old. I started out washing cars, then moved to the service and parts departments.

I was trying to learn as much as I could about the various jobs in the dealership.

After graduating from Auburn University, I started working here full-time in 2007. First, as the finance and insurance manager for a few years, then moving up to sales manager and then the general manager position.

In 2012 I became the dealer operator.

Also, in 2012 we bought what used to be Lawson Chevrolet in Jasper, Georgia. My brother is the dealer operator there.

During that time, we also built a preowned superstore over in Rockmart, Georgia. We’ve been fortunate over the last few years to branch out and grow.

My brother and I are the fourth generation owner-operators of the business, which you seldom see anymore.

SuperVette Saturday

ROD WORLEY – Editor – SuperVette Saturday is one of the largest gathering of Corvettes in the Southeast. How long has Day’s Chevrolet been involved with this event?

And as a follow-up question, is there a lot of prep work involved to get the dealership ready for the big day?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – We started hosting the Classic Glass Corvette Club here for SuperVette Saturday back in 1984.

We just had our 36th show here last month.

So in terms of prep work on our end, it comes down to physically moving the vehicles off the lot to ensure the club has adequate space. Classic Glass, for its part, does a great job of taking responsibility for securing the vendors.

The club itself has an excellent team that is specifically put together for Super Saturday. They also do most of the planning and organizing.

Strong Partnership

ROD WORLEY – Editor – What are some of the benefits to the dealership for hosting this event and being involved with the Classic Glass Corvette Club of Marietta?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – Rod, we’ve been fortunate to have a long-standing partnership with the Classic Glass Corvette Club Club of Marietta. I believe they’ve got over two hundred and fifty members, and many of those members have been our friends and customers for a lot of years.

Over that time, they’ve not only purchased Corvettes from us, but many other Chevrolet models for various family needs. We also service their vehicles and provide technical support.

It’s been a strong partnership for us. The Super Saturday show is a tangible way for Day’s Chevrolet to show our support for the club and the metro Atlanta Corvette community at large.

It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for their business and support over the years.

Giving Back To The Community

ROD WORLEY – Editor – Days Chevrolet has a long history of supporting the local community. From the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program to “Chevy Youth Baseball Day,” Day’s Chevrolet has positively impacted the community.

Why is community involvement so important to your business?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – Community involvement is vital because we’ve been a part of the Acworth community for so long. As I said, my grandparents and great grandparents started in Acworth’s Chevrolet business in the late 50s.

We’re fortunate to have many multi-generational families that have supported our dealership over the years. Acworth is more than just a city to us; it’s home for us, our neighbors, and supporters of our business.

When we support our local charitable organizations, we’re doing several things. We’re helping organizations and programs that better the community, and we’re positively impacting the lives of people who live here.

In the end, being actively involved and giving back to the community is our way of saying, “Thank You” for making Day’s Chevrolet what it is today.

The Day’s Chevrolet Advantage

ROD WORLEY – Editor – With several Chevrolet dealerships in the Atlanta area, what, in your estimation, sets Day’s Chevrolet apart from the others? Why should people buy their new Corvette from your dealership?

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – What sets us apart from most dealerships Rod is that we’ve been family owned and operated for 61 years. In today’s world, that is quickly becoming rare.

The experience at a family-owned dealership is much different from what you would have at a dealership owned by a large corporation. We consider our staff and our clients as part of our family.

Our staff turnover is very low, and our staff’s tenure is much longer because of family ownership. The client’s advantage is they can do business with the same people for sales and service year after year.

You develop a deep level of trust and confidence with a dealership when you work with the same people over the years. You know us, and we know your vehicle.

My brother and I are always in the dealerships. If a customer needs our help with an issue, they know we’re just a phone call away.

Buying Your New Corvette

DANIEL DIEMER – Owner and Dealer Principal – The second part of your question was, “Why should someone buy their new Corvette from Day’s Chevrolet?” That’s an important question in many respects.

First and foremost is our excellent sales staff. Our knowledgeable team invests a lot of time in knowing the Corvette product inside and out.

The option and equipment packages change from year to year, and you have to take the time to understand those changes. Our experienced staff can help you navigate the extensive options list, so your new Corvette is perfect for you.

The buying experience is only half the equation. Service after the sale is another crucial point that separates our family-owned dealership from corporate ones.

We’ve got 14 technicians in our main shop area, three of them are certified, world-class master technicians. This classification is the highest that General Motors has to offer.

Our service staff’s tenure and experience give our customers the confidence they need to keep coming back to us.

Combining our Corvette sales staff’s experience with our world-class master technicians for service is a powerful combination. This gives our customers the confidence to choose Day’s Chevrolet for their new Corvette purchases and service.

A Dealership You Can Trust

As Corvettes evolve they become increasingly more complicated to service and maintain. Having a dealership that you trust has become a necessity for late model Corvette owners.

Owning America’s Sports Car for many of us is a true passion. A passion that we expect those who service our Bowling Green creation to have as well.

Having spent time with Daniel Diemer, one point is abundantly clear. This Chevrolet dealership has a passion for both for our beloved Corvette and the people who drive them.

This 61 year old family business has proven they have the experience and drive to be your Corvette dealership of choice. As a Vette owner, you should know Day’s Chevrolet in Acworth.
