The Downtown Monroe Car Shows No Signs Of Slowing Down

Usually, you start slowing down a bit when you get older.

Apparently, that doesn’t hold true for the downtown car show in Monroe, GA. This year marks its 20th anniversary, and the annual “Making Memories in Monroe” car show shows no signs of slowing down.

No, not a bit. On the contrary, we would argue that they’ve become even more dominant in the area’s hierarchy of car shows.

How many car shows can advertise an event date, cancel it three days before due to weather, reschedule for the following weekend, and still be strong?

Few, if any, would be our guess. In our experience, most other events would lose vast chunks of registered show cars and spectator traffic.

In many ways, spectator traffic helps this annual event rank so high on everyone’s list of must-attend shows. There’s a vibe, an audible din from the crowd, that raises the energy level.

In addition, downtown stores and restaurants are open for business, and hundreds of incredible vehicles are displayed over several city blocks.

Abundant sunshine, head-turning cars, and throngs of people made this 20th anniversary one to remember.

They Did What To That Corvette?

Some things catch our eye, such as a line of people waiting to sign a 2006 Corvette with a large black Sharpie. That would have been enough for us to stop and stare, but then we shot a glance at the exposed engine bay.

The glance quickly turned into a stare, which turned into us instinctively yelling, “Hey, who owns this Corvette?” The sheepish grins of two nearby guys answered our first of many rapid-fire questions.

Suffice it to say we’ve got a feature article with the build story and details headed your way. For now, you can mentally ruminate on this tidbit.

Where an LS2 6.0 liter V-8 engine sits typically, there’s a twin turbo four cylinder Honda motor with exhaust pipes poking through the front fenders.

Did we mention it’s currently tuned for 30 pounds of boost and trips the quarter-mile lights in the 9-second range? As far as Austin and Kevin go, their shop’s name, Unruly Motorsports, says it all.

Check out their Instagram site for some great shorts on this build and others they’ve done.

Streetside Classics Supports

Holding down the prime corner vendor location once more was Jimmy Ethridge and the Streetside Classics tent. Given all the people stopping by the tent, it’s easy to believe they’re living up to their reputation as the nation’s #1 consignment dealer.

But Jimmy and his team are more than simply an automotive resource. They are hands-on in supporting the local car community. Recently, he donated his showroom to host the starting point of a poker run benefiting Parkinson’s research.

Later in 2025, Streetside Classics, at 213 Thornton Rd #400, Lithia Springs, will be a prime sponsor of the 3rd Annual GSRA Collector Car Appreciation Day.

CCA In The House

If you’re putting on a big-time car show in this area, you can expect Corvette Cruisers of Atlanta (CCA) members to be among the entrants. This year’s Monroe event was no exception.

Webb and his ultra-clean 2019 Grand Sport coup were hoping to bring home a trophy again this year. As a member of CCA, Webb is no stranger to car shows and how they work.

In fact, CCA’s 13th Annual Corvettes & Camaros Show will take place on Saturday, September 13th, 2025. We’ll keep you posted as event details roll in.

Neighborhood Block Party

How would we describe the annual “Memories In Monroe” show in one sentence? It would go something like this.

“It’s a good old-fashioned neighborhood block party where everyone brings their special ride they’ve been working on all year.”

Truthfully, this event brings out collectables and customs that you don’t see anywhere else. The cherry on top of this sundae is that, by all accounts, this show is a success.

That’s evident by a quick count of the ever-growing number of vendor tents and food trucks that line the streets. Also, seeing thousands of people drawn to the downtown area to shop, eat, mingle, and take in the automotive sights is like a healing tonic for our region’s car hobby.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the event organizers and volunteers who spend months preparing to transform the bustling downtown into a family-friendly car show venue. Here’s hoping for another 20 years of success!
