How would you like to be the first person outside of Chevrolet to drive the new C8 convertible? Just to make it more interesting, what if your passenger was Tadge Juechter, the Executive Chief Engineer for Corvette?
For most of us Corvette lovers, it would be the dream of a lifetime. Even for a serious car aficionado like Jay Leno, you could tell it was a big thrill.
The interview and subsequent driving were filmed for an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage which is in its fifth season on NBC. While watching the 56-minute video you couldn’t help but enjoy the chemistry between them and see their genuine love of this iconic brand.
Perhaps they developed that connection when Jay and Tadge took the 2019 Corvette ZR1 to over 200 MPH at the Milford Proving Grounds. Either way, the video is full of insights into the newest convertible in the Corvette lineup and definitely worth the time investment.
Surprising Takeaway
One of my surprising takeaways from the video was just how relatable, and passionate Tadge was in talking about this new vehicle and the Corvette brand. It was a given that he would understand the form and function of the car, but he showed his considerable skills as a brand ambassador as well.
Which is no easy feat when you’re paired up with the quick-witted legendary comedian, and former host of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
Jay for his part brought valuable real-world experience as he was able to compare the Corvette to McLarens, Lamborghini, and other exotic cars in his personal collection. Jay’s collection is both extensive and noteworthy.
It consists of around 136 automobiles — all spectacular and all very pricey. He also owns 90 motorcycles as well. Altogether, the collection is valued at approximately $50 million. So when he talks about different aspects of the car he likes, he draws from the experience of his own personal supercar collection, and not as a paid spokesperson reading from a contrived script.
At the end of the day, owning a Corvette and being part of the lifestyle is about sharing your passion for the car made in Bowling Green, Kentucky with others. Clearly these two friends have that passion, not to mention considerable insights that they freely share throughout the video.
Watch it, you won’t be disappointed!
