SVRA Trans-Am Racing Knows How To Heat Up The 2025 Spring

The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) knows how to navigate Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and has fun doing it.

That should be no surprise because SVRA is the largest and one of the oldest vintage racing organizations in the United States. This isn’t their first rodeo.

Some might recall it was initially named the Southeast Vintage Racing Association. For the history buffs among us, Ford Heacock III founded it in 1978 following the success of the Kendall Vintage Grand Prix held as part of the annual 12 Hours of Sebring.

In those early days, membership was approximately 25 drivers and supporters. Currently, they have over 2,500 licensed competitors. Still, the bedrock tenant of “Safe – Fair – Fun” competition has held steady over the years.

The racing action over the weekend of March 23rd to 25th, 2025, bore that out. Under a canopy of brilliant blue sky, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta competitors and spectators got a chance to scratch their racing itch.

From start to finish, the racing was close, and the smiles across fan faces were wide.

And for those looking for racing action, we recommend our series: From the Paddock: The Roar of Corvette & Vintage Racing.

Where Are The Corvettes?

In years past, you’d see several Corvettes vying for top honors in the various classes. This Spring, the picture was bleak for ardent fans of America’s Sports Car.

These days, in the Trans Am series, only two-time champion Amy Ruman is campaigning a Corvette. It seems the other Corvette teams have moved on to Mustangs and Camaros.

In the XGT class of Trans Am, the last Corvette standing is the bright yellow Number 02, driven by 24-year-old Kaylee Bryson. Keep your eye on Kaylee this year as she tries to replicate her lower-division series championship run from last year.

Granted, this is only the second race of the Trans Am race season, but here are the standings so far:

  • 1. Number 17 – Adam Andretti – Top Liner – Chevrolet Camaro.
  • 2. Number 3 – Paul Menard Pittsburgh Paints – Menards/Ford Mustang.
  • 3. Number 23 – Amy Ruman McNicholsCo/ValleyAutomotiveGrp – Chevrolet Corvette.

In the XGT class, the race finished the same way it started, with Paul Tracy leading from green to checkered flag in his Number 10 – Race Cars For You – Innovation IRC GT. The battle for second and third place came down to teammates.

Danny Lowry in the Number 42 – Bennett/BridgeHaul/Pitboxes.com – Mercedes AMG GT4 and his teammate Billy Griffin in the Number 14 – Griffin Auto Care – Mercedes AMG GT3 ran nose to tail in second and third the entire day.

Kaylee Bryson, our lone Corvette entry in the XGT class, struggled in her Number 02 Logical Systems Inc. – Chevrolet Corvette. Midway through the race, she had to make a trip to pit road for repairs. Fortunately, she returned to the action to finish 11th overall and fourth in class.

Five SimShop Racing Simulators

SIMply Fun For All

One of the free new additions for 2025 was a custom SVRA “Experience Motorsports” trailer devoted to SIM racing. Imagine a tractor-trailer with a pop-out side that houses five SimShop racing simulators.

Each simulator came fully equipped with cockpit components paired to three large wraparound screens to envelope your senses. Many aspiring racers stepped up boldly only to find their skills a wee bit lacking.

No worries, though, because the ever-challenging 2.540-mile Road Atlanta road course has humbled many a pro.

A trailer-wide LED screen showing the Sim Track action kept everyone’s attention as they waited for a chance behind the wheel. Even some track competitors made their way to the SIM trailer to hone their skills between on-track race sessions.

Looking back over the racing weekend, if you love close racing in various classes, this was a great experience. Even the weather was on our side, with brisk early morning temperatures giving way to warm afternoons.

This weekend checked off all the boxes, starting with chamber-of-commerce weather, tight racing, a car show, and free SIM racing. Truthfully, we can’t wait for next year.
